2017-18 Annual Report: With a Little Help From Our Friends
Partnerships with advocacy groups and individual activists such as Alona Steinke (first row, fifth from left) were instrumental in the defeat of numerous coal and oil transport terminal projects in Oregon and Washington. Over 50 years ago, the most famous band on the planet, the Beatles, came together to produce an album. They pushed themselves to do something they hadn’t tried before, mixing new styles and influences and in the process changed music forever with Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. And they did it, I might say, “with a little help from their friends.”
As you’ll see in our 2017-18 Annual Report, Friends of the Columbia Gorge pushed ourselves into new directions with the help of our friends and the Gorge will never be the same. While annual reports are typically focused on financial accomplishments, we wanted to add a special digital element to give space to four examples of everyday courage where individuals and groups came together over the course of 2017-18 to make us a better organization and help protect, preserve and steward the Gorge.
Our community should be very proud of the accomplishments described in this report—after all, your support is what made it happen. We never would have crossed the finish line without the help of these inspiring individuals and organizations. - Kevin Gorman, executive director
